The taxi fare to reach the main square is about $2 and the Mérida International Airport is about a 16-minute drive away. You can hail a taxi on the street outside The Villa. Taxi service in Merida is both inexpensive and safe. If travelling by car, note that Merida is not a particularly car-friendly city (at least in Historic Centro), most parking will have to be off the street in one of the many little private lots. You pay by the hour, it's pretty inexpensive. We have pretty easy street parking at The Villa, and we have had no security problems with that. Some visitors like to rent bikes to explore the City, so we’d suggest sticking to the side streets and never cycling after dusk. Merida is considered the safest city in Mexico, and walking around by day or night is very safe. You can hail taxis and ask locals for directions without any problem.
