Enjoy 31 nights or more in Kona while staying in your own 1300sqft private, downstairs, open-air, apartment. Enjoy the peace, safety and quiet of an upscale residential neighborhood close to town, while feeling the gentle breeze blow through the living room. NOTE: This apartment is for long-term stays only - 31 nights or more. All bookings are subject to Hawaii Occupancy Tax @ 17.962% (10.25% State Transient Accommodation + 3% County Transient Accommodation + 4.7120% General Excise Tax). Enjoy open-air, tropical living in the huge (1300 square foot!) downstairs PuPu Ohana Suites, with it's one King bedroom and one Queen bedroom, a Full-sized futon and a premium inflatable mattress to accommodate up to 6 guests total. The entire Ohana is screened to keep out pests but allows you to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of paradise while you relax and enjoy the super-fast WiFi and Basic Cable TV. And if privacy is necessary, you can always roll down the shades and blinds. The PuPu Ohana Suites features a versatile "split" bathroom configuration which allows multiple guests to use the 3 separate separate toilet, shower and wash basin rooms simultaneously. This saves a lot of time and effort when there are a group of people trying to get going in the morning. The space features a full-size fridge, microwave, toaster, rice cooker and critical 12 cup coffee machine, with a full assortment of kitchenware, silverware, utensils, mugs and glasses. Because the house is situated to take advantage of the mauka makai breeze that tends to cool off Kona throughout the day, there is no air-conditioning (AC). However, there are several ceiling fans, multiple portable fans, as well as wall-mounted fans you can use to move some air around if you need to. Both bedrooms have cinder block walls and provide a nice cool and comfy place to rest during the heat of the day, and of course, at night. There are King and Queen luxury foam beds for up to 4 people. Two more people can be accommodated on a provided Full sized bamboo futon and/or inflatable Queen mattress, for an additional $35 per person, per night. Max occupancy is 6 guests. Children over 2 are included in the total count. A high-chair and mini/travel crib can be made available upon request (38"/50lb max - first-come-first-served, so please confirm availability when you book). There are no laundry facilities in my Ohana, however there are several options in-town for getting your laundry done. Please see this listing's Guidebook for information on Tyke's (drop-n-go) or J & K's (self-service) for nearby laundry options. Ask me to share my Big Island List! I keep it updated with things to do, places to eat, beaches to see and fun to be had. Guests will have access to the the private downstairs Ohana via an outdoor staircase (10 cement stairs w/railing) to your own private entrance. The Ohana overlooks the shared backyard with fruit trees, tropical flowers and plants. Please enjoy my delicious mangoes from the tree in the backyard when they're in season and available (normally late May-Nov)! There is also a lime tree and some other edible fruits in the backyard. Pineapples are a fragile, precious and slow-growing commodity, however, so please do not pick or otherwise molest them. Your keys will be in a lock-box when you arrive, and if you happen to need anything purchased on your behalf, and made available to you when you arrive (water, food, etc), please message me a few days before you land, and I should be able to accommodate your reasonable requests (service fee will be applied). You will have the space entirely to yourself, but I'm always just a message away. I have great friends who live about 1/2 mile away who take care of the the house and cleaning, and are available outside of normal business hours to help with any minor issues that might come up. I also have backup/on-call property management and maintenance services available if necessary (additional fees may apply for some requests). Should someone be staying upstairs while you are staying in my downstairs Ohana, they will be adhering to the same rules that you are. Feel free to say 'hi' as you share some of my mangoes or watch the sunset from the stairs! This is a beautiful and quiet upscale Kona town neighborhood. We are a close-knit community who keep an eye out for each other, and make sure the neighborhood stays safe. Feel secure in knowing that you will be visiting one of the most desirable areas to stay in town. There are nearby parks with children's play equipment. The immediate neighborhood also has well maintained sidewalks and street lights for taking walks at night and early in the morning, which I recommend to avoid the heat. Regardless of how safe any neighborhood is, criminals do tend to target rental vehicles. Avoid being a victim of theft; do not leave valuables visible in your vehicle anywhere you park it during your visit. Rental cars are really a necessity on the Big Island. There are also local taxi services available to get you around, or drop you downtown to grab some libations safely. Lyft and Uber now operate in Kailua-Kona and Hilo! It is a 5 minute drive to the downtown tourist areas, and about the same to the major shopping districts and malls around town, which include stores like Macy's, Target, Kmart, Walmart, Ross and Sports Authority as well as major food and drug outlets such as Safeway, KTA, Foodland and Longs Drugs. It is roughly a 1 mi./20 minute (steep) downhill walk to Ali'i drive, and several nearby beaches and foot access routes. I recommend driving to the shore as the uphill return walk can be quite strenuous in the heat. PLEASE NOTE: All bookings include the Hawaii Occupancy Tax @ 17.962% (comprised of 10.25% State Transient Accommodation + 3% County Transient Accommodation + 4.7120% General Excise Tax). There is one HDMI capable TV with BASIC CABLE in the Ohana, which also allows you to stream online content via WiFi. You must bring your own cables if you plan to connect your laptop or tablet directly to the TV. The TV is currently connected to a Chromecast device that should allow you to cast most online content from your phone, tablet or laptop wirelessly. The "Goo gle Home" app, which allows you to cast from your phone or tablet, is available in the app stores for Apple and Play Store for Android users. Apple users can also install Home, or look for an app called "Allcast" (free) or "Cinch for Chromecast" ($5) to play their local phone content. There is VERY FAST cable internet (300Mbps!), and GREAT WiFi signal throughout the house and premises. I am unable to offer anything other than basic instructions on how to connect to the WiFi. If you are having problems with your devices during your stay, I do contract with a professional who can take care of your IT support needs, and I can bill you for his hourly costs. There is a cordless VoIP phone you can use for free local and long distance calls to the US (incl. PR) and Canada. It is tied to my house address for E911 services in case of emergency (i.e. calling 911 for emergency services does work). The septic tank that serves my home ONLY tolerates (septic-safe) toilet paper, and nothing else. Should there be a plumbing emergency due to flushing other paper, foreign objects or feminine products, you will liable for the pumping fees, which can cost several thousand dollars, on average.
