On the road leaving San Pablo, toward San Marcos. Here's a taste... YouTube-/f8cvx6oLklw -search Located on the edge of San Pablo La Laguna, (a quiet village almost untouched by tourism), the house offers an opportunity to live in a more traditional Mayan setting. San Pablo is a small farming community growing coffee, maize, fruits, vegetables and onions. Other local 'industries' include fishing, carpentry, carving (drum-making), and the production of 'sessile' rope made from the fibers of the 'maguey' cactus. Other local crafts such as crochet, and weaving produce 'hackey-sacks' . Tourism has not ‘overrun’ San Pablo as yet and the village is in many ways a throwback to times long-gone; though technology and and access to it are present. On the North Side of Lake Atitlàn, San Pablo is easily accessed from the ‘Interamericana ‘ highway on CA 4 (a mere 20km through verdant hills), or via boat from Panajachel. On the southeast edge of this village overlooking Lake Atitlàn, sits the bungalow. Near enough to the main road and the village, but far enough to be relaxing and peaceful. The bungalow is a mere 75m off the road on a public path. Situated among coffee and various fruiting trees, on its own fenced-in garden, the house overlooks the lake. You can enjoy your morning coffee on the deck overlooking the lake & volcanos, or on the garden patio watching the sunrise over the lake. The living room and kitchen are cool and comfortable during the day; the patio is a great place to hang-out in the hammock, or relax in the comfortable patio furniture (locally made), and the deck off the bedroom provides spectacular views. The house is spacious yet cozy. The property with it's own private entrance is secluded, yet easily accessible. The internet connection is fiber-optic 5Mbps, fast and very reliable. We have a back-up internet source just in case ... Besides coffee, there are avocado, banana, papaya and citrus trees in the garden, strewn with red and black raspberry bushes. There is a small herb garden with lemon-grass, basil, oregano, cilantro, mint, & thyme. Many birds fly about visiting the flowers and fruits. Nearby towns of San Juan, San Pedro and San Marcos are easily accessible by boat or moto-taxi ('tuk-tuk'). There is a gym across the street from our entrance way with modern equipment and reasonable rates (hourly, weekly, monthly). The region offers fantastic hiking opportunities and guides can be arranged to hike to the 'Rostro Maya', Volcan San Pedro or the waterfall in Tzununa. We recommend our friend Luis Tuy Tuy, or you can arrange with the local tourist agencies. The house has its own fenced-in grounds (patio and garden) which are at your disposal to enjoy, with a private entrance. We live on an adjoining property to the north of the guest house and are available to offer any assistence in making your stay more enjoyable. We are located in a (relatively) quiet 'sub-urban' area on the southeast of town; 75m walk from the first corner of the town 'proper'. There is private (gated) parking 25m up the road at a nearby hotel/restaurant. Shops are 5m up the road. Though it's generally peaceful (relative to the town center, or other urban settings, we are on the edge of a thriving Tz'utujil village where life happens on a daily basis. This is Guatemala, a noisy country in general (December is 'firecracker season' ...). so you may hear, 'bombas', firecrackers, evangelical churches with loudspeakers, barking dogs, roosters, and occasional noises of daily life like traffic or a cantina, all part & parcel of the rich texture of life here in rural Guatemala. Moto-taxis are plentiful in San Pablo, and San Marcos, San Pedro, or San Juan are only a few km away. If you wish to visit Panajachel we recommend catching the boat at the San Marcos dock. Though the only parking we can offer is on the road, there is a private parking lot 75 yards up the road that offers spaces at $3.00/day. The lake is easily accessed by continuing down the path from the house some 300-350m walk. Nearby (15-20min walking, 5 min in tuk-tuk), is the public beach 'Las Cristalinas'. It is a public space more conducive to swimming, with a sandy beach. Kayaks can be rented there. We own a small bakery and pizzaria with a brick oven. We can offer our guests freshly baked bread and 'wood-fired' pizzas. We grow and roast our own organic coffee which we also have available for sale. On your arrival, you'll find a complimentary, fresh loaf of bread and a quarter pound of our coffee to enjoy.
