Our retreat facility is bathed in ocean trade winds and negative ions from the 150-foot waterfall just below us. Very healthy fresh air! The moon and stars are gorgeous at night due to the lack of light pollution. In addition to being an active farm, Hale Akua is a unique sanctuary for rest and relaxation. You will have a chance to dive deeper into what inspires you, to open, relax, rejuvenate, learn and connect in a place of spectacular natural beauty. Everyone who stays with us is welcome to book a tour of our organic farm for $25. Farm tour needs to be booked at least 24 hours in advance with our office staff. There is a 5-night minimum stay during the holiday season, Christmas/New Year. Note: Please keep in mind, our center is a rustic compound in the middle of the jungle. We do have de-humidifiers and air purifiers in every room as well as air conditioning units for when it is hot. We are centered in a tropical rainforest with many weird and wonderful insect species. We only use natural pesticides and cleaning chemicals on the property. As a result, we occasionally have more animal visitors. These may include geckos, ants, flying cockroaches, centipedes, cane spiders, and mice. We are in their natural habitat, so we will not be able to refund any portion of your stay for these house guests. Free onsite parking. Guest have access to the eco-retreat facilities which include the large saltwater pool, hot tub overlooking the ocean, kitchen, and dining area. Guests can also get guidance on what is great to visit by looking through our guidebook in their room or asking for help at the office. Office is open Mon - Sun from 9am - 5pm. We also provide an afterhours phone if you need anything outside these hours. Upon your booking, we provide you with a Welcome Booklet that includes local recommendations and anything else you may be wondering before, and during, your stay. This area of Haiku, called Huelo, is a rural area with the upcountry Maui jungle feel. We are about halfway to Hana but not all the way into the rainy part (about 20 minutes from Paia). We are right at the part of the Hana Hwy that starts to get windy and narrow, and where we get just enough rain to keep things green all year round. Located in Huelo on the north shore of Maui only fifteen minutes from Paia and thirty minutes from the airport, A'apali at Pali Uli is an indescribable enchantment of manicured tropical gardens, placid lotus ponds, and sweeping coastline vistas. Its nature reserve includes a quarter of a mile of rugged coastal shoreline and an entire coastal valley. Price listed includes cleaning fees and extra coffee, tea, and cream if needed in the room. The solar electric system at Hale Akua currently consists of 200 solar panels, 12 inverters, and 24 solar batteries. Our founder Lori Grace has invested in this system to prevent unnecessary contributions to climate change. This solar electric system will add another two days of electricity, provided there has been an adequate amount of sunlight charge before an electrical outage. We also have 10 Eco-Flow batteries (3kw electricity per room) which can add two to three days of electricity if needed. Learning to live on limited electricity is a wonderful and necessary education for our current climate situation. We would like for all our guests to learn to work together with our staff in these situations. Large hotels here on Maui that experience an electrical failure do not provide backup power, nor do they offer refunds. As we do not feel responsible for Hawaiian Electric’s failures, there will be an opportunity for education rather than a refund if we have an outage, and our staff will assist you the best they can.
