As of October 1, 2023 we will be running as a Bed and Breakfast and will be serving continental breakfast! The bedroom is fully furnished including a Cal King bed. The room is on the 2nd floor of this large 6 bedroom house situated on 3 acres of tranquil Hawaii paradise. Includes fast WiFi, cable and towels. Close to Hilo and Volcano National Park. Our home is not suitable for children under 12 years old. The property is situated only 30 minutes drive from the Volcano National Park and 20 minutes drive to Hilo. In addition to the bedroom there are 3 other bedrooms available in the same house if you have more people in your group to accommodate. Click on view my full profile to see other rooms. A large propane barbecue grill is available. The property is situated on catchment with a brand new 15000 gal tank, granule filter, charcoal filter and UV filter which makes the water completely safe to drink. The double outdoor shower is a popular attraction. The property is in close proximity to the Volcano National Park, (UPDATE May 22, 2018 HNVP is closed for the time being due to the possibility of steam explosions from Halemaumau crater) lava tubes, steam vents, numerous water falls, zip line, tsunami museum, Mauna Kea Observatory, Botanical Garden, Orchid farm and many more to see. I have books and maps available to be used for planning your excursions. The Big Island is a very special place, with one of the few active volcanoes in the world. A must see is the Volcano National Park, where you can see volcanic steam vent holes and walk on numerous hiking trails. Here are some free things you can do, the Akatsuka Orchid farm, snorkel and look at the colorful tropical fish small and low key Panaewa zoo, stop at South Point (Ka Lae), the most southern point of US territory, green sand beach, Rainbow falls, the Boiling pots, snorkel/swim with dolphins at Ho'okena or 2 steps, St Benedict`s Painted Church, walk the Hilo down town stores and fruit market place, visit the Captain Cook Monument at Kealakekua bay, walk down the spectacular Waipio or Polulu valleys, travel up Mauna Kea to look at the Observatory and stars through the telescopes set up at the Onizuka Center for International Astronomy, swim with the ocean turtles or see them sleep and bask at many of the more secluded beaches on the island, like Kiholo Bay and Punalu'u Black Sand Beach, tan and swim at many of the white sand beaches, like Magic Sands, Hapuna, Mauna Kea, Makalavena, visit many of the historic Hawaiian centers on the island and bathe in the waterfall at the Kolekole Beach Park. These are only but a few things you could do, to many to mention. Paying stuff would be, visit the Tsunami museum, Akaka Falls, Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden, take a fight on the Blue Hawaiian helicopters, swim and snorkel with the manta-rays at night, Zip line across the Akaka falls or rain forest settings, ATV and horse riding excursions, variety of boat and catamaran activities being offered. Kayaking and stand up paddle boarding could also be a fun activity to do. Shared bathroom and kitchen, living room and lanai. We live on property and are available as needed. My wife and I are sometimes available as a tour guides, depending on our work schedules. We are familiar with the island and what it has to offer because it's our home. Previously, I lived on the West side but I have lived on the island for decades. My wife was born in East Hawaii. Our charge is normally $25/hour if we are going in your vehicle. If you don't have a vehicle, and we drive our vehicle, we would charge $30/hour plus gas. This might allow you to forgo on renting a vehicle. Feel free to inquire more if interested. This is a quiet neighborhood situated 20 minutes’ drive outside of Hilo on route to Volcano. I have books and maps available to be used for planning your excursions. Paying things would be, to visit the Tsunami museum, Akaka Falls (just parking fee), Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden, take a fight on the Blue Hawaiian helicopters, swim and snorkel with the manta-rays at night, Zip line across the Akaka falls or rain forest settings, ATV and horse riding excursions, variety of boat and catamaran activities being offered. Kayaking and stand up paddle boarding could also be a fun activity to do. To experience this island, you really need a vehicle. It is quite rural and spread apart. 4 wheel drive is necessary to drive to the green Sands beach, down into Waipio Valley and to the summit of Mauna Kea. Otherwise a car and hiking will do. There is a bus route about 2 and a half miles from the house, but it is very limited, not for sightseeing by any means. No smoking allowed on premises. Close doors quickly to keep mosquitos out, and keep screen doors closed as well. Please be considerate by not slamming the doors and use the doorstoppers if leaving inside doors open. Leave outdoor shoes on rack by door. House slippers inside are fine.
