Where the secluded rainforest jungle meets the ocean, you will find a special getaway at Mana House. Mana House is an upstairs, self-contained dwelling with a private entrance and a large open floor plan covering 1600 square feet. The space includes three bedrooms, 1 1/2 bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a mango wood bar with stools for in-kitchen dining. A full wrap-around and screened-in lanai provide outdoor-in comfort with a large dining table, couches, chairs, and hammocks for lounging about and taking in the scenery. Perfect for families, groups of friends, or business meetings. Bedrooms include 2 king beds and 1 queen bed. A single bed, of the same great quality, can be added by request. A variety of additional futons and unique sleeping arrangements can also be requested. Enjoy a serene night's rest on high quality, environmentally friendly memory foam mattresses, with premium, all-cotton sheets. Behind blackout curtains, the sound of birds and the ocean will steal into your dreams like a nature soundscape. Find a connection to nature in this fully functional off-grid getaway, as the sun powers the house and rainforest rain fills the home’s water catchment system (Water is purified by a triple filter and UV ray filter system. Backup generator provides extra power as needed. Tankless water heater kicks in automatically when the solar hot water heater is low on power.) Feel rejuvenated in the vivid landscape of your upstairs hideaway surrounded by rainforest trees. Your hosts live downstairs in a separate dwelling. We are available to assist you however we can. Relax and enjoy the space as if we weren't here. We have no quiet hours and encourage you to have fun and make noise. You're on vacation! Our mission is for your vacation to be magical. We want to make sure your time at Mana house is a wonderful experience. Please let us know if you have a question, need anything during your stay, or would like a tour of the property. Direct coastal access from your spacious three-bedroom home with a private entrance on the second floor of this two-story home. Your space includes a full kitchen with cooking essentials, 2 bathrooms, hammocks, a large dining table, an eat-in kitchen, a gas range, a refrigerator, a full screened-in lanai, beautiful views, and the sound of the ocean. The first floor is the home of your super chill hosts. Stop by anytime and never worry about bothering us. We love hosting! Feel free to explore the property. Feel the heat coming from our steam vent in the front yard and walk the bridge over a lava tube in the backyard to experience the big island rainforest preserved essentially as it was since the arrival of the goddess Pele. Explore the surrounding 4 acres of raw jungle property, full of massive old-growth trees, caves, wild fruit, a swing, and Hawaiian medicinal plants. Find treasures growing wild in nature everywhere. Discover bananas (green and yellow can be cooked), coconuts, sprouted coconut, grapefruit, lemon, mango, basil, lilikoi, avocado, kombucha squash, Noni, and breadfruit (each available seasonally). Walk directly across the street to the cliffside and watch sea turtles surfing in the waves or the occasional fisherman casting his rod into the deep sea. This is a great place to set up a mat for stargazing! It's also a rare lookout point for dolphins and whales passing by. Only 60 feet out is a deep channel of water used as a pathway by the largest ocean animals, called Ono lane, giving you the rare opportunity to see whales a short distance from shore. Continue your walk along the coastal trail to the right, perhaps crossing over the lava bridge (or walk behind it) and through the Coconut trees to picnic on the smooth Pahoihoi lava rocks while watching waves crash dramatically, sometimes spraying 20 feet high above the lava rock. Enjoy the rainbows often seen in the splashes of the water around 3pm. Cruise down the Red Road in the cool of the afternoon through tunnels of tree canopies, enjoying the coastal breeze and mist from the waves. Feel as though you have traveled back in time in this serene environment. Walking out the driveway to the right will lead you to the Hale Aloha Snack Shop in less than 1/2 a mile where you will find local ice cream, healthy snacks, coffee, and trinkets for sale. During summer, wild mangos grow all along the road and are available to pick, as are the coconuts, seasonal passion fruit, and papaya if you look for them along the road. Or find a variety of other fruit and honey available from roadside fruit stands. We are here to provide a magical space for you to make epic memories with your friends/family. We love hosting all kinds of groups. Whether you are a group of friends coming to have a good time, a large family gathering to celebrate a special event, a band, or a family with small children, we want you to feel at home. Your hosts live downstairs. We give you space and privacy but are available for whatever you need. We don't have quiet hours and encourage you to have fun, listen to music, and make noise. Other cell networks can make calls and texts over wifi with wifi calling enabled on your phone. We can help enable that if you need a hand. We are 100% off-grid. Our robust system of solar panels, batteries, and back-up generator provides plenty of energy for large groups and normal use. However, please be energy conscious. Our water is collected rain and for your comfort the whole house water supply is cleaned by a 4 stage filtration system down to 1 micron, including UV. Use water but don't waste it. Sink water is safe to drink, but we offer an additional level of filtration for your drinking pleasure with a Berkey activated charcoal water filtration system. The silver canister gives you an extra level of filtration, adds important minerals such as iron, calcium, and magnesium, and improves the taste of water to give you the ultimate drinking water experience. Enjoy the beauty of the jungle safely. Although this is a rain forest jungle, we have relatively few critters or wild animals to worry about. No giant spiders to fear. No snakes on the island. Nothing threatening, just a few thing to keep in mind for your convenience. Keep summer bugs out by shutting the screen door. You may come across the occasional centipede hiding under a rock or plant. Use caution by kicking a rock or plant/coconut over if you want to pick it up to avoid getting stung. Blister Beatles are sweet and harmless, unless you smash them on your skin. Their guts have a blistering agent, called Cantharidin, that will leave you with a small blister. No big deal, just wash your skin with soap if happen to get it on your skin and cover the area with a bandaid. It is not a common issue for anyone. Fire ants are in the neighborhood, but are generally not a problem in or around the house. Use the outdoor mats provided to sit across the street to avoid annoying fire-ant interactions. Their bite is simply annoying and the itchy sting only lasts about 15 minutes. It can be eased by washing it with soap and water or by applying hand sanitizer. Wash all fruits and vegetables carefully before eating them as slugs can carry disease. The only spider to avoid is commonly found outside. The relatively harmless crab spider has the potential to leave a small annoying bite, but I have never been bitten by it nor have I heard of a guest being bothered by one. The perimeter of the house is secured by a fence that keeps wild pigs away. Pigs are not a large threat, but avoid interacting with them if you see them cruising around the neighborhood. This is jungle living at its best! Bask in this magical space and property. Live simply and soak in the abundance of the island.
