Welcome to paradise! This newly built guest house, with stunning ocean views, is on the Big Island of Hawaii. Located off the scenic coastal Red Road (Hwy 137). Walk to Kehena Beach (aka Dolphin Beach). Short drive to volcanic heated pond & newly created black sand beach at Pohoiki. The home was custom built by the owner. Fine materials and finishing throughout. Tall ceilings, well chosen furnishings, and uncluttered design give this ohana an open and airy feel. Stunning ocean view from most areas. The house is situated to take advantage of our Hawaiian trade winds, providing cool ocean breezes throughout the day. The guest house has an open floor plan with the exception of the private bathroom. Nicely sized at 423 square feet with a 192 sq. ft. covered lanai, providing you a spectacular ocean views while enjoying the outdoor lounge and dining. You have exclusive and private use of the ohana. The property is a shared space. The main room: Providing an immaculately clean space is our top priority. The main room has a new high quality queen sized mattress, with nice quality linens. There is an ocean view from the bed, front sliding doors, and lanai. Table with two chairs (which can be easily taken outside). The kitchenette: Granite counter-top with sink. Apartment sized refrigerator. We provide the essentials, such as cups, plates, and flatware. Please note this unit does not have a stove for cooking. The bathroom: Gorgeous tile in the shower. Soap, shampoo, and towels provided. Laundry: Washer and dryer are available to guests who stay more than 7 days. Location: The house is located in Puna District on the Big Island of Hawaii. Puna is completely off the beaten path and tucked away in the south-east part of the island. Beauty and nature abound with many ocean side hiking trails, dense jungle and tree canopies, lava flows, and thermally heated ponds. Located within walking distance of the famous Kehena Black Sand Beach. It’s in a quiet residential neighborhood with beautiful homes. Dark sky provides endless star gazing on clear nights. The location feels remote, but is an easy 20 minute drive to the small town of Pahoa. There you will find restaurants, shops, and two grocery stores. Everything you could need. About a 50 minute drive to Hilo and 2.5 hours to Kona. Both Hilo and Kona have airports. Please note: This home is best for guests who want a quiet retreat for relaxation. We enjoy hosting family’s with children, but loud voices and play are discouraged. Please make sure that this Zen like atmosphere is well suited to you and your family. Guest access: Guests have exclusive and private use of the ohana and front lanai. The property is shared. For ultimate privacy and larger groups, there is a separate main house and downstairs unit. These can be booked upon request when available. Staying connected and WIFI: We have fast internet. Enough speed to accommodate telecommuting and Zoom meetings. Cell service at the house and immediate surrounding area can be spotty. We recommend that you connect your cell phone through our wifi. This unit does not have a tv, so please bring your lap top if you want to watch movies. We are available for local recommendations or any other needs to make your stay thoroughly enjoyable! Uncles ‘Awa Club & Wednesday Night Market (5-9pm) is three miles south in Kalapana, a fun market where you will find local produce, art, crafts, food vendors and live music. Truly an event you won’t want to miss! (Currently smaller in size due to Covid). Kaimu Saturday Market is OPEN for business from 8-12pm & you’ll find lots of food vendors, fresh produce & music :) there. Kalapana has a small grocery store, a smoothie shack, a vegan café, bar, local Hawaiian food, and a local art gallery. The gorgeous Kaimu Beach is a short walk out over the lava field that was formed in 1990. The fun little town of Pahoa is only nine miles away and has everything you will need. From the local natural food store, grocery store, drugstore, bakery, cafes, bars and restaurants to unique giftshops, art galleries, museum, community center and library. Also, the Maku’u Farmers Market takes place right outside of Pahoa every Sunday from 8-2pm, produce, art, and food vendors from all over the island can be found there. You must have a rental car to enjoy this area. Bus and ride sharing services are very limited. Some guests have said they were surprised at how big the "Big Island" is. Please anticipate driving times to see all that our island has to offer. Good neighbor policy: No loud noise please. The house is located in a quiet residential neighborhood. It's best suited for guests who are looking for a quiet get away and retreat. Loud music and parties are discouraged at all times. Our Hawaiian Vacation Rental Permit requires no noise after 9PM. Good neighbor rules are posted in house, as required by local law. PLEASE NOTE: This is a shared property. You may encounter others and care takers during your stay. This home is best for guests who want a quiet retreat for relaxation. We enjoy hosting family’s with children, but loud voices and play are discouraged. Please make sure that this Zen like atmosphere is well suited to you and your family. Sustainable design and care for our island. We employ as many sustainable design principles as possible, We are partially off the grid and reduce our energy and waste footprint as much as possible. This means: 1. No Air conditioning. The house is designed/sited for a natural cross flow catching the abundant coastal trade winds. We have fans if needed. 2. Water collection: we collect our abundant rainwater. It is filtered and can be used for drinking water. 3. Electricity: we use the latest in LED technologies to reduce our energy usage. 4. Living wage: we pay a living wage to all our staff to help our community thrive. We do not provide snorkel gear as our local snorkeling spots were taken with the 2018 lava flow. Hilo has some great snorkeling spots and there are places to rent affordable gear there. Hawaiian style - please remove shoes. Mahalo!
