Our ocean view cabins provide rustic comforts for lone travelers, couples, friends, and groups who want to experience the natural beauty and captivating adventure of off-grid, farm life on the Big Island. As our guest, you also have access to Kulaniapia Falls, the largest privately accessible waterfall in the state of Hawaii, at 120 ft tall, as well as adventures like waterfall rappelling and lava tube exploration. While 100% off the grid, we are also only 15 minutes from town. The Farm is part of our larger Kulaniapia community, spanning 40 acres, operated by a passionate team that collaborates to share our off-the-grid lifestyle, and other unique experiences for our guests. In addition to cabins on the farm, we also operate a full service Inn with more traditional accommodations. Our private chef offer a “chef’s table” dinner overlooking the falls, and brakfast is availalbe for an additional charge. Cooking classes and farm tours are available on specific days of the week. Places are limited so please let us know if you are interested in booking these experiences! Your private space is a custom designed, hardwood cabin, with an incredible view of the ocean and wrap around lanai. Your cabin is fully screened in, with a memory foam queen bed. Two adults fit comfortably in one cabin. There is also a solar power battery bank that provides power for the cabin’s lights and charges your electronic devices via USB-A connection. We have several cabins, so if you need more than one, just ask! In addition to your private cabin, all of our guests have access to a large communal space in the loft of our barn that has incredible views of Hilo Bay and Maunakea. There is a full kitchen with custom lychee wood countertops, and many cozy places to lounge and enjoy the company of your fellow guests, and our farming community. We love hosting guests and sharing what we love about living off-the-grid, and growing our own food! We often have produce available for sale, or you can bring your own ingredients from the store in town. On the first floor of the barn, you will find shared bathrooms, including proper flush toilets and outdoor showers with on-demand hot water. These are located 100-150 ft away from your cabin, and we provide flashlights and headlamps to make the journey easier at night. In addition to your cabin, and the communal space in the barn, you also have access to Kulaniapia Falls, and the amenities of the Inn. We are a small community that live on site, manage the farm, and love sharing our way of life with guests. We also love to host, so please always feel welcome to engage with us, or ask about anything we can help you with. We also offer farm tours most days, and we hope you will join us! If you happen to find yourself staying with us on a community evening then you’re invited to join our weekly community potluck gathering. To get involved simply show up in the community barn space at dusk and bring or prepare something to share. Ask your host which nights might be coming up! Our farm is one of many comprising the Puueo Farms district. Crop and pasture fields line the road, as well as ambling macadamia nut and lychee orchards. The road up the mountain is paved but is windy and unlit at night, so please drive with caution and make way for oncoming traffic. Taxi and ride share services do cover this area. Our cabins are much easier to find in the daytime so we ask that all guests check in before 6PM. We can generally accommodate late check ins until 8PM, if you arrive after that, you may need to upgrade to a room at the Inn or find alterantive accomodations, especially if you do not arrange a late arrivaly with us in advance. There are some additional fees paid by all guests who visit Kulaniapia Falls. When you arrive, you will check in at the Inn, where you will pay your taxes (14.69% of your booking, excluding AirBnB service fees), and a $10/adult/nt amenity fee, which includes access to Kulaniapia Falls, use of kayaks, and paddleboards. After checking in, you will head up to the farm, and we will show you your cabin, and all of the common spaces. This is a fully functional farm. You will encounter animals, and as such, may not bring your own, for their safety, and ours. We have dogs, cats, goats, cows, pigs, horses, and there are wild hogs, mongeese, birds, hawks, lizards, coqui frogs, and many more types of wildlife. Some of them may come quite close to your cabins, or even inside. You are welcome to swim in the large swimming pond underneath Kulaniapia Falls, or, in our smaller, private swimming hold closer to the farm, where clothing is optional. In either case, please be mindful that paths down to the river can be a bit muddy and a bit slippery after a rain, and the river rocks, for the most part are fun and safe to walk on, but can be unstable and when wet, slippery. Please wear proper footwear and walk with caution, and note that THERE IS NO LIFEGUARD ON DUTY, and swimming is at your own risk. Our farm is situated at about 1000' of elevation, and it can get cool at night. We recommend a light jacket for evening wear, and we provide extra blankets in your cabin. The downstairs of the barn is a workshop for the farm. Any materials and appliances here are for host use only.
