Tropical Tree House and Studio Canopy near Pahoa
Welcome to the Tropical Tree Homestead! Together but separate, we offer two adjacent handcrafted dwellings with an interconnecting yard. The Homestead is one mile to Kehena beach, six miles to the new Po'hoiki black sand beach, the new lava flows, and many tide pools along the red road. Perfect for two groups or large families. Laze about in the hammock. Lot's of love has gone into the custom wood, stone and landscape work. Unique and unconventional in every way. You'll love the Homestead! The Tropical Tree House, with all it's ornate craftsmanship, brings to the senses the feeling of a wood lodge. Earthy colors set a cool tone of tranquility. It is a nature lover's dream. Tropical flowers permeate the surrounding landscape with their sensuous lure. Color abounds. Vanilla orchids can be seen trellising up the native Kukui tree, once used for its oil to light the way. Giant Ohia trees, sometimes in bloom with the red lehua flower, emerge in the background silhouetting the sky. The home features local materials, such as the Ohia tree for structural support, mango wood counter tops in the kitchen, and bamboo railings. The front lanai (porch) has a sculpted fireplace that resembles melted lava rock. The masonry BBQ is made from lava rocks and can be easily accessed from the master bedroom. The house is fully furnished and has two beds, a queen sized futon bed in the master and a king sized futon bed in the loft above the luggage room, which is best accessed by the agile. The main bedroom is mostly windows, giving you a sense of being close to the outdoors. It is connected to a small outdoor, yet private, half bath. The loft bed is only partitioned and so is less private and connected to the main living/kitchen areas below. The main indoor/outdoor bath has a walk in shower with a decadent claw foot tub for soaking. The Tropical Canopy Studio (Sleeps two) Delve into the depths of the Puna rain forest where a trickling garden lulls you into relaxation. Five minutes to Kehena beach and twenty minutes to the Kalapana lava flow. Drive the scenic Red Road to nearby tide pools for snorkeling. The Studio features a handmade hardwood kitchen and matching furniture made from Monkey Pod or rain tree. Coqui frogs sing you to sleep on the queen sized futon. Open and airy, yet cozy and safe, the Studio is perched two stories up. Adjacent, yet very private. I live on property and am available if desired. Located in Puna the house is nestled into the jungle of east Hawaii and is a ten minute walk to the black sand beach of Kehena, where there may be dolphins to play with, as well as seasonal whale watching. A short drive will land you at Unlce Roberts Kava bar, where you will often find the Uncles playing old Hawaiian country songs on Wednesday night. Also, at Uncle Roberts is the Saturday morning farmers market. Kalani Honua resort is located right next door, where you can find Sunday morning dance, wonderful dining options, workshops of all kinds and a store. Drive down the red road and you will come across tide pools and naturally heated warm ponds, both are great for swimming and healing. And don't forget to check out Poohiki, our local surf spot. Historical Pahoa town is just fifteen minutes away. There is a bus system, but renting a car is the best way to get around the island. Geckos will be in the house.
