My name is Shaker and I would be happy to welcome you to our camp! My family has been in Wadi Rum for many generations and I am born and raised in the surrounding desert. As a guest in our camp you will have the opportunity to learn from our vast knowledge of the land and you will be exposed to the Bedouin culture and our daily lives. Every night we prepare food traditional to the region and cook in an underground oven (Zarb), shared together with other guests in the traditional nomad style. Our Camp is a reflection of traditional Bedouin camps within Wadi Rum. Although many members of our family still live nomadic lifestyles herding livestock, our camp has a fixed location and various amenities that are not traditional to Bedouin camps including electricity, running water and private tent accommodation with beds raised off the floor. We feel that we have discovered the right balance of comfort and authenticity for our guests. The camp is your second home and you are welcome to use all facilities. All meals are prepared in the camp so you will not need to access the kitchen, however we have a large tent for socialising, meals and interaction and individual private tents for guests to stay comfortably in a private space. Our camp aims to have high engagement with guests, during the day guest predominantly explore the protected area and we are busy either guiding tours or arranging logistics for guests. However in the morning all guests and Bedouin share breakfast and socialise and each night following sunset we have a large communal meal and play games and share stories, riddles and jokes and hope to provide you some insight into our lives and culture. The camp is within the UNESCO dual listed Wadi Rum Protected Area for both its natural beauty and cultural significance. We are relatively isolated and there is no access to any shops or amenities outside the camp but we provide all meals and necessities to our guests. Enjoy the isolation and quiet of the desert during your stay with us! To access the camp and wider Protected Area you require a protected area vehicle permit, 4x4, deflated tyres and soft sand driving competency. In most cases our guests utilise our services and join us on tours to various locations throughout the Protected Area. We have no wifi in the camp and this is one of the best features - it is intended that guests take this opportunity to engage with others and enjoy being disconnected. We will take care of you during your stay and you will not need to be connected to the internet. The facilities are basic by Western standards and luxurious by local Bedouin standards. We hope that you understand that we aim to provide a cultural exchange and an insight into our way of life and not to replicate a Western European hotel service standard. We respect all visitors to our place and we expect they respect us in like. Traditional Zarb Dinner shared with hosts and all guests each evening is an additional JOD10. Transport from Wadi Rum Rest House is complimentary for all guests who stay with us and join a tour.
