Love to be surrounded by nature - just a few miles from Volcano National Park? Chateau Kilauea is a cozy, peaceful, rain forest guest cottage offering privacy, comfort and a one of a kind stay. Lush and relaxing and perfectly located in paradise. This charming and private bedroom/bathroom studio cottage sits 60 feet from the main house on Lazy Acres in the beautiful Hawaiian rain forest. The studio cottage includes a very comfortable queen bed, ceiling fan, UV filtered rain water, hot showers, towels, bed linens, extra blanket, drinking water, soap, shampoo, blow dryer, space heater, etc. We have large outdoor kitchen available to guests at our Tavern deck. Washer, Dryer, and laundry detergent are available for guests who need to do laundry during their stay. Temperatures are cool at night and pleasant during the day. The rain forest includes fresh clean air, lots of lush tropical foliage, beautiful anthuriums, hapu`u ferns, birds, and coqui frogs. Star filled nights in the hot tub are also a bonus. Must love dogs goes without saying when staying at Lazy Acres. The Lazy Acres pack includes 4 dogs and 1 cat. They roam the property freely as do our guests. Ranger and Miles are two black lab/mixed or “poi” dogs. They are very friendly and have been at Lazy Acres since they were puppies and first rescued the property. Lavender is Lazy Acres only female dog and a whippet/pit mix. She came to live at Lazy Acres from Rainbow Friends Animal Sanctuary. Hank is our "big boy". He has been at Lazy Acres since he was rescued from his life of living in the bushes and eating discarded plate lunches. Our cat, Xyla is also part of the pack at Lazy Acres. She came to Lazy Acres right off of a rain forest hiking trail. Lazy Acres is located 10 miles from Volcanoes National Park and a great home base for your East Side Big Island stay. Lazy Acres is 23 miles from Hilo, 30 miles from the famous fissure 8 in Pahoa, a 75 minute drive to Mauna Kea's summit and a 2 hour drive to the beautiful Kohala Coast. We believe the best type of vacation to the big island involves staying on both sides (Kona side/Hilo side) to avoid lots of driving. Lily and Brian are your hosts at Lazy Acres. We know the Volcanoes National Park and the east side of Big Island very well and have maps, pictures, stories, etc to help you get the most out of your stay. We hope to surprise and delight you with a one-of-a-kind stay. We thrive in the rain forest where we do things pono, embracing nature and the aloha spirit. Guests have 24/7 access to the deck on the Lazy Acres Manor (A-frame house), Hammock Haven, Lazy Acres Tavern, Good Vibes Outdoor Kitchen, the lovely and always heated hot tub, and are free to roam all 6 acres of the property. We are as available to our guests as they want us to be. We respect one another's privacy and also enjoy each other's company. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful. We enjoy the remoteness the Fern Forest offers and the eclectic group of people living here. We are located on a paved road and that's a bonus out here in the country! Lazy Acres is 10 miles from the nearest restaurant. Restaurants close early around here and hours fluctuate. Be sure to be thinking about getting dinner between 6 and 8pm. Public transportation is 3 miles from Lazy Acres. Not particularly convenient. This is not the place to stay if you are relying on public transportation. The nights are cool and the stars bright. It is the rain forest and you can expect it will rain. Be sure and pack your rain gear when heading to Lazy Acres. When the sun shines, look for rainbows! As part of our "pay it forward" practices, we donate $5.00 of every night's stay to Rainbow Friends Animal Sanctuary. This is a beautiful "no kill" animal shelter in Kurtistown, HI. (about 7 miles from us). We adopted Lavender from these fabulous folks. Our total donations for 2023 totaled $550.00 (110 nights booked). Also, this year we made a Maui Promise following the devastating Lahaina Wildfire. We donated $30.00 from every night's stay 8/1 - 12/31. We are grateful we were able to donate a total of $1,580.00 to two personal family go fund me campaigns, the Maui Humane Society, Hawaii Animal Rescue Foundation - Maui, and Maui Tea Farm.
