Rice paddies gently flow down the nearby hills. The nearest village is called Antap. It is about 1 kilometer away, a short drive on a country road on a crest above rice paddies. Imagine spending your vacations with your loved ones in a place that seems so far away from your home and far from the crowds of southern Bali. On this wild, empty black sand beach, you meet only locals, especially children playing on the sand in the evening. However, the main and the best Bali road, the one that goes from Denpasar to Gilimanuk, is only 5 kilometers away. So, you can reach many places from the villa during half-day trips (e.g. Balian surf beach, Belimbing rice paddies or full-day trips (e.g. Ubud, Seminyak, Jatiluwih). I tried to make the house as integrated as possible with the landscape and chose contemporary Indonesian architecture. It took me 3 years to dream, plan and build this villa, from the very shape of its roofs to the location of each building on this gentle slope leading to the beach, as well as the crazy size of the pool, and the locally-made contemporary furniture. This house is called Bulung Daya, simply because it is the name of this area by the beach. Giving this name was a way to show the local villages that I wanted to just melt into the landscape. The villa is relatively far from the urbanized areas of Kuta – Seminyak (about 45 kilometers – 27 miles), yet very accessible as it is only 5 kilometers from the main Bali road (in yellow on the map). Thanks to new bridges opened in 2015, the travel time from Seminyak has dramatically fallen from 90 minutes to about 1 hour. But traffic in Bali remains unpredictable due to accidents and ceremonies.
