Candy’s Cottage is the perfect space for business or pleasure in Montana’s capital city. We are located across the street from the Capitol building, down the street from the hospital, and just a few blocks from miles of hiking and biking trails in Helena. Walking distance to downtown restaurants, grocery and drug stores. Candy’s Cottage is part of an historic 130-year-old property. We are small (400 square feet), but complete, with Wi-Fi and washer/dryer. Ideal for 1-2 adults. The cottage is entered through the alley entrance at the back of the main house. A courtyard separates the main house from the cottage, so I am always available. The yard is fenced (to keep deer out and the dog in). The cottage is a studio with a queen bed and a pull-out double bed. The kitchen is completely furnished with most accoutrements that guests would need. There is an antique Ethan Allen kitchen table that seats 4. Guests have a patio and outdoor table right outside of their door. They are also welcomed to share parts of my beautiful, but small, yard. There are distinct sections of the yard so that we can all have privacy as well as enjoy the outdoors. Walking around the neighborhood is safe and fun, although you may come across deer, skunks and other urban wildlife, especially in the evening. There are substantial hills going into town and up into the hills for hiking, and we begin at 4100 feet altitude. Off street parking is available for up to 2 cars. Paid parking is available downtown. My home is on the property and I am available most times to provide information or help. I enjoy welcoming guests and interacting with them as we cross paths. You will be staying in an 82 year old converted barn that is part of my 130 year old property. We are near a relatively busy corner, but in a safe part of town called the Sobro area (South of Broadway). There is a mixture of old and new houses in the area. Although it has not been designated as historic area, it borders on a few historic areas, particularly the Capitol building. The hospital is down the street in one direction and downtown is down the street in the opposite direction. The mountains to the north include the Sleeping Giant which I’ll point out. The mountains to the south include miles of hiking and biking trails. The mountain to the west is the open Mount Helena City Park, which also has miles of open access trails. And finally the mountains to the east are the snow capped gateway to Butte America. Helena is about halfway between Yellowstone National Park and Glacier National Park. We are two hours from Bozeman and two hours from Missoula and about 3 1/2 hours from Kalispell. If you’re reasonably fit, walking is probably the best way to get around. The weather in spring through fall is typically nice with limited moisture and lots of sunshine, although we’ve had freak snows every month of the year. You have access to offstreet parking in the alley right next to the cottage. There is very limited public transportation, so I would recommend either walking or Uber or Lyft if you are without a car. Open access walking trails and biking trails are just a few blocks away. The downtown area that has shops, breweries, wine bars and restaurants is a straight downhill walk. There is a theater within walking distance that specializes in small release movies and fabulous live performances. Grocery store and pharmacy are within walking distance, about 1-mile round trip. And of course, we are right across the street from the Capitol building, which has a beautiful interior, lovely architecture, stained glass windows, and murals. Also very close is the Montana Historical Museum which has a sweet museum shop and interesting exhibits. Come and enjoy the sweetness of Helena.
