We offer a cozy, comfortable, studio apartment located in the heart of the Pioneer Valley right on the bike path, a walk to Look Park and easy access to hiking. We are a 10 minute drive to downtown Northampton with lots of great restaurants and music. Our proximity to Snow Farm, Smith and the other area colleges makes this an ideal overnight spot for parents in town for a brief visit, people attending area workshops and classes or for those looking to stay longer and explore the area. I am a carpenter and have been lovingly re-crafting our beautiful old house since my partner and I purchased it some 20 odd years ago. I have literally uncovered some of it's original aesthetic and charm, while improving and modernizing its infrastructure. Our studio rental sits under the same roof as our home and has its own private front and back entrances, both of which offer a place to sit and relax. Recently renovated, the studio is outfitted with handsome custom built cabinets and counters and a new bathroom. The kitchen, with its dorm size refrigerator, is fully equipped and has a sweet dining corner. The remainder of the space is taken up with a comfortable double bed and sitting area where you can kick back with a good book or just unwind for a spell. The entrances to the studio are separate from our home and you will be able to let yourself in and out. We live in the main part of the house should anything arise that you need us for. Though now almost exclusively residential, Leeds was once a booming mill town with shops, a hotel and several taverns. The Mill River is right across the street from the house. The history here is rich and we live along what is known as the Mill River Greenway. Around the neighborhood and along the bike path you will discover signs that commemorate and tell some of the story of our area. You can follow the African American Heritage Trail which is just a short drive or bike ride away in Florence, MA. Among the places on the walking tour are the former homes of Sojourner Truth and Frederick Douglas. They both lived in Florence in the 1800's where there was an enclave of abolitionists. A number of whom were self-emancipated former slaves. World class theater and dance are not far off. Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival, Tanglewood, Shakespeare and Company, Williamstown Theater Festival and Chester Theater are all within a comfortable driving distance for an afternoon or evening jaunt. As is Mass MoCA if you want to experience some art. If you enjoy cross country skiing, you can drive 45 minutes to Notchview, a wonderful spot in Windsor MA. Our Property abuts the bike path, which you can take into Northampton and on into Amherst or Easthampton. The bike path is also a lovely easy walking trail and takes you along the Mill River. Or, if you prefer to ride along country roads, just hop on your bike! There are many possible routes right out the front door! Although as yet, there is only one train a day in each direction, Amtrak stops in downtown Northampton! There is even a local bus between Northampton and Williamsburg that runs hourly for most of the day and has a stop in Leeds just a 3 minute walk from the house.
