Riverwood Hideaway
This off-grid, solar powered hideaway is on the Knife River just a few miles outside of Two Harbors, Minnesota. The cabin itself is loaded with comfort. A full kitchen, propane refrigerator, solar powered lights and a gas fireplace/furnace offer the conveniences of home. There is an outhouse and firewood for the outdoor firepit. You will have to bring your own water for drinking, but we provide hand and dish washing water at the sink. We have coffee with pour over utensils, dishes, spices. Large windows give you a feel of being outdoors under oak, maple, aspen and pines. Sit out on the deck and enjoy your morning coffee or BBQ dinner. The river is only 220 feet from the cabin, so you may hear it when the water is high. You will likely see deer, snowshoe hare and a variety of birds including ravens, crows, grouse and many kinds of woodpeckers. A rare sighting might be a black bear or moose You will be 5 miles from town but "the neighborhood" is forest. Mixed hardwoods and conifers surround the cabin. We usually do not meet our guests, but live very close by in case you need anything. We are always happy to help. While you are in the woods, you may see and hear lots of forest critters. The town of Two Harbors also offers lots of great places to hang out. The Castle Danger Brewery and Cedar Coffee Company are local favorites. Many new shops offer local art for sale and you can hike the shoreline of Lake Superior from the Ore Docks in Agate Bay to Burlington Bay Beach. You can hike the Superior Hiking Trail or head out on your bikes. If you don't have bikes of your own, you may want to rent a bike from Spoken Gear (attached to Cedar Coffee Company). There are paved trails around town or you can do some adventure biking in the Demonstration Forest. There are no showers, but in the summer season you can shower at the city campground (Burlington Bay).
