Villa Makara is set among a group of six private villas that share a beautiful secluded beach. The sun loungers on the lawn are for our guests' use. Guests gather at the beach bar to socialize and have drinks with friends and other guests. It's fun, relaxing and laid back. As the host and villa manager I am available and on-site a good part of the day. I can answer all of your questions, help you with making reservations at local restaurants, organizing day trips, renting scooters, fishing boats, etc. Wulan is my assistant and she's also available to help with anything you may need. Our housekeeping staff will keep everything clean and tidy. If you require more privacy or wish not to be disturbed during your stay - please let them know. Amed is the name of a village at the beginning of the coastal road the weaves in and out of a series of fishing villages and bays. This general area is collectively known as 'Amed'. Amed has great scuba and snorkeling sites with sand and pebble beaches. The area boasts magnificent views of Mt. Agung and Lombok as blue water bays. There's a relaxed and easy- going vibe here - it's a great place to escape to and enjoy a tropical beach holiday. Villa Makara is located in the southern part of Amed on 'Ibus Beach' - a short distance from the Japanese Wreck. We have a distinct and unique location compared to anywhere in the Amed area. Makara sits on a secluded sandy* beach with a beautiful coral reef off the shore - in short, your tropical beach hideaway! Many of our guests hire Stand Up Paddle Boards, kayaks or snorkelling gear and explore the vibrant reefs just off the beach. Dining In / Dining Out: Our own Trattoria offers authentic Italian meals and is located 2 minutes from the villa. There are handful of restaurants within a 5 - 15 minute walk. Many restaurants offer complimentary transfers for lunch and dinner reservations. The Vibe... The area is fairly laid back and quiet, so don't expect a thriving night life in this part of Bali. That said, there are couple of bars that feature live music and nightlife - ask our staff for details. In the mornings you will see the local fishing boats returning from the morning catch - this happens around 7:00 AM - if the fishing is good they'll head out again in the afternoon. Be on the look out for dolphins and turtles - we have many sightings off our beach! Getting Here and Away: Most of our guests arrive by a private car transfer. We can easily organize a transfer from the airport or from any point in Bali. The costs are reasonable and depend on the location and vehicle type. Expect your transfer to take around 3 hours from most points in Bali. More and more guests are renting cars and self-driving. This is a great way to experience the island and to explore independently. We do have a parking area and you are welcome to park during your stay. For short trips and day tours our staff can arrange a car & driver service within the Amed area. Please check the price lists in the villa. To move around locally you might consider a scooter. Many people of all ages enjoy the freedom of moving around and exploring the area. We partner with a reliable scooter rental service - our staff can easily organize this for you. Fast boat service between Amed and the Gilis is easy and convenient. We recommend Free Bird Express. They offer free transfers in the Amed area for departing and arriving passengers. You can buy tickets on-line, at the local ticket office or ask our staff for help. What to expect... 1. Villa Makara is not a hotel. The villa is set within a group of discreet private villas separated by lush trees, tropical plants, flowers and walls. We offer an enhanced vacation rental experience on a secluded beach in a beautiful space. We do not have 24 hour room service, in-room phones, butler or concierge services. We DO have daily housekeeping, security night watch, a delicious breakfast service, and a fantastic housekeeping and gardening crew that will go out of their way to help you. Your fridge will be stocked with beer, wine and soft drinks at fair prices. 2. Our property has stairs. If you cannot handle stairs, then this is not the right place for you. 3. We have fiber optic internet from our ISP, Telkom, with a seamless WiFi connection throughout the property. From time to time service may be slow or interrupted. Please understand we are in a remote part of world and in a remote part of Bali. You will receive your password upon check-in. 4. We do NOT have cellular / mobile phone signal in the area at this time. We recommend all guests use any popular internet communication app to make calls. A land line is available at the reception and the beach bar. 5. There is a TV and DVD player in the villa. Check-out the large selection of DVDs in the reception. We also have a mini-HDMI cable so you can plug your tablet, phone or laptop to the TV. Please see our manager if you would like to borrow the mini-HDMI cable. 6. We serve breakfast between 7:30 AM - 11:00 AM. Please see the menu for options. If you need an earlier breakfast - please let our staff know the day before.
