The Tinker Street Retreat is a 3 bedroom Dutch farmhouse built in 1756 by Philip Rick, inventor of the Jonathan apple. Updated with modern amenities but maintaining much of the property's old world charm. Big living room with huge 150" projection screen, razor sharp home theater and dozens of DVDs plus Roku. Fully stocked chef's kitchen, music room with instruments, library. Outside is a fire pit in a beautiful meadow, hammocks, gardens, small stream and forest trails. * STR Permit 22H-259 The house is walking distance to "downtown" Woodstock, right on the main road. During daytime there can be some minimal road noise but by 8pm it’s very quiet. This is a perfect home base for exploring the entire Catskills by day and cooking at home or going out for fine dining, drinks or live bands nearby at night. Saugerties and Kingston are just minutes away for added options. A car is pretty necessary for longer stays but many NYC-based guests take the Trailways bus to Woodstock and have a great time for a weekend getaway. The bus becomes local and can let you off at my driveway. Sunfrost Farm market is close so you can stock up on high quality produce and meats, and also eat breakfast or lunch there any day! Our bedrooms are all queen size, each room with a unique character to it. Bathrooms have electric heaters for added comfort in the winter. The upstairs bathroom has an old fashioned ceramic tub with antique "telephone style" handheld shower, while downstairs is a luxurious, open-design shower. Most Woodstock rentals offer a sterile, rent-designed house or absentee condo. Our house is an actual home with 4 acres of grounds and many personal, artistic details. This old house is quirky and lived in. It has stories to tell! Please don't expect a pristine W Hotel or Hilton vibe, but do expect love and smiles at every turn. The Tinker Street Retreat compound has one main house and two cottages further towards the forest. The cottages are being renovated, so you might see workers in them some days, but the entire property is yours to explore. As with anywhere in the Northeast, if heading outdoors please spray your legs with bug spray to repel ticks. Feel free to text Kurt or Lea anytime with questions or requests. "Woodstock is Love!" - with a holistic, health-conscious and artistic community at its core. There are fun shops in town, incredible chefs at most local restaurants, lots of yoga and health spas, great hikes, natural swimming holes, mountain biking, the Woodstock Film Festival, live music many nights, and skiing/snowboarding nearby in Winter. Tinker Street is the main road in our little hippie town, and our house is just half a mile from where "downtown" begins. If you are coming from NYC the Trailways buses from Port Authority come right to Woodstock and can even drop you off at my driveway. Having or renting a car is highly recommended though, as many worthy sights and restaurants are a few miles away - and there is no Uber or cab service out here. We have hosted many novelists, musicians, visual artists and creative souls over the years. It is our dream that Tinker Street Retreat becomes known as a great haven for artists in the Catskills.
