Private Room and Bath in Victorian Cottage
"Raspberry House" is truly one of Old Southwest's architectural treasures in the Queen Anne style. Unlike many houses in the neighborhood, it has always been a single-family dwelling, thereby maintaining the original charm. It includes an expansive front porch with classic columns where guests can relax and engage in leisurely porch sitting with the neighborhood. As of September 2022, we are generating our own electricity with the installation of 12 solar panels. 1904 meets the 21st century! The upstairs is yours to enjoy privately with a freshly painted bedroom, refinished, 100- year-old heart pine floors, and a new pillow top queen bed. We provide quality bed linens including flannel sheets during the winter months. There is a small refrigerator to store your beverages and food. We also provide an electric hot water pot to make tea. The bathroom is private and features a claw foot bathtub with a handheld shower and of course bath salts! We provide an air purifier for those people who suffer from allergies. We have a shoes-off policy upstairs which enables us not to have to charge a cleaning fee. Please make yourself at home on our comfortable front porch with our new ceiling fan and a view of the garden. We are also pleased to say we are one of the few hosts on the Roanoke Airbnb site that have been approved and licensed by the city of Roanoke. We look forward to meeting you! You have full access to our front porch . We love meeting people and good conversations but respect your need for privacy. Our 1904 Queen Anne Victorian cottage, is conveniently located in Roanoke's historic Old Southwest neighborhood, which until the end of World War II was considered one of the premier neighborhoods in the city. It is a mere 5-minute drive off of 581 and just a 15-minute walk to downtown art galleries and restaurants. 32 acre Highland Park, featuring a nine-hole disc golf course and tennis court, is 1 block away. The YMCA, Shaftman Performance Hall, Carilion Medical School, Roanoke River, and Greenway are also close by, as well as RND Roasters, a new coffee house. We are situated 1 block from Garden Song Eco Cafe and 5 blocks from Evie's Bistro and Bakery, both open for lunch as well as dinner. Our neighborhood is family-friendly and walkable with hiking trails within a 7- minute drive. The Roanoke Star on Mill Mountain has great views of the Roanoke Valley and is nearby. There are many good restaurants and breweries within walking distance. There is ample on-street parking in front of our house. Because Amtrak is often late arriving in Roanoke and our check-in time is no later than 10 pm, we are unable to host Amtrak travelers. We live in a transitional neighborhood that has a socially and economically diverse population with a mix of single-family and rental properties. The health and well-being of our guests are of the utmost importance. Therefore we are following the recommendations for cleaning and disinfection by the Center for Disease Control during this challenging time. As of April 2, 2021, your hosts are fully vaccinated. Thank you, Elaine and Richard
