Pohnpei Family Bungalow at Sokehs Rock
Come stay at our family bungalow in Diekot, Sokehs, tucked in beneath Sokehs Rock and a coastal, mangrove harbor with access to the ocean and boats (at high tide). Open floor plan, tall windwos w/small kitchen alcove. Ideal for single or couple looking to unplug and unwind. Sleep island style on the tile or on a light futon. Cool breezes blow daily. Sokehs Rock prevents you from catching a wifi signal for cell phones in the bungalow, but you can stand under the Cell Phone Trees - the Dipwop (Indian Almond) or the Aiao (Giant Ficus) at the end of the property (1/4 mile) to catch a signal and make a call. Remember to stop at FSM Telecomm in town to pick up a SIM card, data, and minutes ($10). Guests may access the length of the property along the road, explore inland, or explore the coast. You're on your own - just call if need help. There is one house nearby with a family. Other than the usual household and family activities, the area is quiet and isolated. One can look up to see Sokehs Rock towering overhead. The old historical German Road runs through the property while the legendary magical rock of brothers Soukepinalu and Soulepwepwehdi with their mother (the rubber tree) overlook the road from the neighboring property. There is a small channel through the mangrove which you can use to access the water for canoeing, kayaking, or fishing, or even to go around Sokehs island. Arrangements must be made for kayaks or other water transportation. If needed we can escort you or identify a ride to get you to and from the airport. Additional transportation available upon request. Parking available on the property. The neighborhood is quiet though cars will pass by on the road from time to time to get to the other houses beyond the property. The road circles the entire Sokehs Island.
