A modern house based on traditional Friesland farmhouse design, it is the ideal place to bike, walk, and enjoy nature or perhaps enjoy the fine dining and culture excursions nearby. This renovated Friesian farmhouse consists of a front house and a fully remodeled barn that serves as the main living area. This structure creates two distinct living spaces, each equipped with its own kitchen and eating areas, making it ideal for one or two families. The house offers many relaxing spaces with fabulous views, a ping pong table, and a trampoline. We have also created our own personal guide book which details our favorite excursions, dining, shopping, and outdoor activities. We are eager to offer you any advice on things to do, see, and enjoy! Guests will have access to the entire house, the outdoor terraces, the trampoline, barbecue, ping pong table, and sports equipment including lacrosse sticks and goal, soccer gear, lawn bowling set, etc. We also have an extensive library in English and many board games for your enjoyment. The garage is not included in the rental. We are very responsive hosts and are eager to share with you all that we know about the history of the area and all it has to offer. We are based in the USA most of the year but have a local manager who takes care of all details of the home. He will be there to greet you and help you with your settling in. The Opsterland Municipality offers amazing outdoor activities, including biking, walking, hiking, and bird watching. We often awaken to see deer, hares, hawks, egrets, herons, and storks right outside our bedroom door. We are a short drive from some of the best sailing in the Netherlands, as well as the extraordinary barrier beach communities of the Wadden Islands. Friesland itself is a province with its own language and cultural identity, which sets it apart from the rest of the country. Our family loves the local museums, dining, and shopping. Yet we also see the house as a base for exploring Europe, as we are only 1.5 hours drive from Amsterdam, 2.5 hours drive from Antwerp, and a half-day's drive from Paris, Berlin, and Copenhagen! There are trains and buses available, but you will need to make a number of transfers to get to our home. We would recommend renting a car which will give you more flexibility and autonomy.
