This is the place, located just outside of the resort town of Highlands, North Carolina on two acres of mountain property. With an altitude above 4,000 feet, the days are pleasant for biking, canoeing, kayaking, boating, river rafting, zip line, summer and snow tubing, horseback riding, fishing and just relaxing on the deck with a good book. There is no need for air conditioning in the summer at this altitude, but it is available. Be sure to bring a sweater as the evenings are cool. The spring is full of wildflowers, summer days are pleasantly warm, fall is an exquisite rainbow of autumn color and winter can be the most beautiful, with a fresh snow fall. This renovated barn offers you a private bedroom, bath, living room, laundry room and deck overlooking a native plant garden and the rock face of Scaly Mountain. A small refrigerator/freezer, microwave, toaster oven and coffee pot offer you the flexibility of dining at home or at one of the many incredible restaurants in the area. The living room is charming with a table set for two in front of a gas fireplace-heater or you can dine by candlelight on the open terrace. We are free from mosquitoes at this altitude so enjoying the private deck is a pleasure. There are ceiling fans in all rooms to keep the fresh mountain air moving. Watch the sunrise with coffee in the morning and stargaze in the evening. The bedroom is furnished with antiques from the 1800's. The full size bed is comfortable with a memory foam topper and made inviting with Egyptian cotton sheets, down comforter and a handmade quilt. Also available for your enjoyment are a CD player, wide selection of movies and Internet access. Cell phone service can be intermittent, so use of the land line is available in your suite. This is a perfect artist retreat, romantic get away or suite for the outdoor enthusiast. Your host is a world traveler and knows what it takes to make your home away from home a great experience! I will provide directions to my home. Some maps and GPS are inaccurate. My home is at the end of MILLER ROAD, off of Buck Knob Road. No smoking inside and no pets, please. The suite is located in the upstairs of my home which is at the end of the road and surrounded by woods. There is hiking and access to the Bartrum Trail nearby. I am always available to my guests prior to arrival and during their stay. I have text, cell and landlines available to me. I am happy to advise you in your area of interest from shopping, restaurants, waterfalls, hiking to points of interest. I have a vast knowledge of the area and always enjoy sharing my love of the mountains. I live in a secluded, quiet mountain setting at the end of the road. It is private and beautiful, surrounded by forest. There are an abundance of hiking trail, water falls and areas of exploration in nature. The suite is just a couple of minutes from the village of Scaly Mountain where the Scaly Mountain Outdoor Center, Annie's Cafe and Zip Line are located. Just 15 minutes away is the the resort town of Highlands which offers 5 star restaurants, top quality art, entertainment and unique shopping experiences. The very best part of living in the mountains are the cool summers, colorful crisp autumn days and lovely snows of winter. Come and enjoy! It is easiest to travel the mountains in your own vehicle. There are shuttles available from Highlands to Atlanta and Asheville airports. Kayak and boat rentals are available on the lakes. Bring clothing for all temperatures. Evenings can be cool in the summer. Wear good boots or walking shoes if you plan to hike or explore waterfalls. I have hiking sticks, fanny packs and water bottle carriers available for your use or you may want to bring your own. Please, no pets or smoking inside.
