The second floor kitchen, dining and living areas are shared with us and other guests. The garage may be used as a place to put gear. We live here full time, so we will be around. The kitchen and living room are shared spaces. We will show you the house and rooms when you arrive. I have had a home in Government Camp since 1969 and lived here permanently for the past 25 years. I love the mountain air, the pure water, the moderate climate, and the multitude of activities afforded the out-of-doors lover. The town has a feeling of wilderness yet its proximity to Portland allows access to the amenities of a big city. There are a number of shops close by, including the Govy General Store. There are a number of dining facilities all with a mountain theme and night life abounds especially on weekends. Winter activities abound with 4 close by ski areas, inner tubing, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, snow mobile rentals, etc. Summer activities include Ski Bowl's Summer Action Park, mountain biking, hiking, mountain lake canoeing/kayaking/swimming, and Deschutes River white water rafting excursions. The world famous Timberline Lodge, offering year round skiing, is within 6 miles. Guests are also welcome to simply sit and relax for the day here at the Chalet. From the Portland Airport, transportation to Government Camp may be by car, or a combination of public transport which accesses the area. Once here, most everything is within walking distance. During the winter months it is a requirement to carry tire chains or have traction tires on your car. There is a bus to Timberline Lodge and ski area. Directions from the Portland Airport (PDX) by public transport: Trimet Red line MAX to Gateway Transit Center Trimet Blue line MAX to Gresham Transit Center Sandy Area Metro (SAM) bus to Sandy Transit Center Mt. Hood Express to Collins Lake stop The walk from the bus stop is about 1/4 mile. We live on the second floor. Kitchen and dining/living room are shared spaces.
