We'd recommend renting a car (we have some good recommendations). You can take the trolley to and from a shopping center and downtown. But there is so much to see on the Big Island... a car is best. There is a cleaning fee of $175. We pay the cleaning staff all of the fee to clean everything before you get there and after you leave.
